Bio: I am a curious person, and I find the world to be a curious place. My inspiration comes from learning new things, discovering new places, and meeting new people, and I make sense of it all by writing it down. My articles and essays have been published in Baltimore Magazine, BmoreArt, National Parks Traveler, Outside In Literary & Travel Magazine, Patch.com, Seltzer, 20 Something Magazine, Missouri Meetings & Events, and Sauce Magazine. I have a day job as a communications specialist for a software company, and I’m also a student in the M.A. in Writing program at Johns Hopkins University. Please visit my blog for more info: www.lisalance.com.

Name: Lisa Lance
Age: 34
Occupation: Writer/Communications specialist
Baltimore Neighborhood: Towson

Obsessive Collections:Books. Also, scraps of paper with random thoughts scribbled on them that I always believe will turn in to a story or article idea.

Currently Reading: French Lessons: Adventures with Knife, Fork, and Corkscrew, by Peter Mayle, The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood, and When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron

Coolest Place You’ve Ever Lived or Travelled To: Paciano, a village in Tuscany that dates back to the 14th century. It is completely surrounded by stone walls, like a city-within-a-fortress, and I felt transported to the past just by walking through village streets and absorbing the history of the place.

Hobbies or Leisure Activities: Yoga, rock climbing, playing piano and drums, hanging out with my two rescue dogs, reading.

Favorite Food to Eat at Home: Veggie pita sandwich (mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and Havarti cheese in a whole-wheat pita) with Sicilian olives and a glass of red wine. I could eat this every single day.

Favorite Food to Eat Out:Iggies pizza–in particular, the “Alice.” Or the BBQ Un-Chicken sandwich at Golden West Cafe.

Favorite Beverage of Choice: Red wine (The Prisoner from Orin Swift winery is my favorite) or black coffee (I’m partial to Zeke’s Tell Tale Dark roast).

Political Leanings: Not a fan of politicians.

Favorite Baltimore spot to hang out: The Peabody Library. I don’t think it’s accurate to say I “hang out” there, but I love it–it’s so beautiful.

Pets:Two dogs: KC, a 15-year-old Basenji/Australian Cattle Dog/Shiba Inu mix (as best we can tell) who looks like a little fox and dances in front of the refrigerator for baby carrots, and Sam, a 6-year-old black lab mix (nobody is quite sure what the “mix” is) who meticulously chews his nails to keep them groomed to the perfect length.

Favorite Artist, Living or Dead: Vincent van Gogh

Movie that Sums Up the Current State of Your Life: The Goonies

Favorite Bad Habit: Watching reruns of 90210 on Saturday mornings when I should be doing something more productive, and less embarrassing.

Mantra or Favorite Quote: That which does not kill us makes us stronger…and gives us more to write about.
