Jeremy Jirsa Solo Exhibition – Closing Reception
Thursday, August 13th: 6-8 pm

Pixilated Federal Hill
46 E. Cross St : 21230

In 2000 I was diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome and OCD. Contrasting by nature, the two diagnoses have placed a constant struggle between order and chaos within me. My Tourettes manifests itself through uncontrollable body spasms while the OCD is evident through my need to touch or do things “x” amount of times or to a certain rhythm. Growing up with such ailments left me with the experiences of feeling trapped with in ones own body, the loss of control, and experience of isolation and feelings of one who wants to be hidden or hide aspects of ones self.

My work has become an exploration of such internal mental spaces. In my work I create an atmosphere of isolation through the use of minimal interiors in order to provoke a sense of psychological space. By using limited subject matter I erect interiors that project the open yet claustrophobic spaces of the constructed subconscious. The work in turn stimulates ideas of loss, psychological turmoil, the exploration of seclusion and emotive qualities of paint.

With in “Memoriam” the focus of the work is to interpret aspects of life through the veil of the mental struggles caused by Tourettes. The work analyzes aspects of depression, loss, and relationships while simultaneously touching on undertones of the struggles between the internal contrast between chaos and order.

In The Jungle at the Baltimore Theatre Project
Friday, Aug 14 at 8-9 pm and Saturday, Aug 15 at 8-9 pm

Baltimore Theatre Project
45 W Preston St, Baltimore, Maryland 21201

Written and directed by STEPHANIE BARBER starring CRICKET ARRISON and M.C. SCHMIDT and with unbelievably gorgeous sets designed by SMELLING SALT AMUSEMENTS, In The Jungle is the story of a scientist who has been living in the jungle for 5 years studying the way plants (particularly xeromorphic and epyphitic plants) express sorrow.

There will only be two evenings of this live performance so if you wanna see it (and i bet you do) you better buy a ticket pretty quickly.
friday and saturday night 8pm-9pm tickets here.

BUT LISTEN!! THIS PART IS IMPORTANT…… if you plan on attending:
this is actually a movie we are shooting and we are doing it live for these 3 reasons….

1: it should provide pleasure
2: two crucial scenes will be shot live which are each 360 degree pans of the theatre and audience….that means YOU WILL BE IN THE MOVIE and you’ll have to be ok with that and you’ll have to sign a release form (even though you’ll be sitting staring, in the dark, at the stage we might catch a glimpse of you)
and
3: this is a fundraiser because this movie is TOO EXPENSIVE. while the tickets are listed as sliding scale (and they ARE and if you want to come and watch and be in it and you really have no money then please still come!!) BUT if you’d like to donate more than $5, $10 or $20 it would be appreciated and donations will be accepted at the door (so no one will know if you gave or not so don’t sweat it…be generous if you can and skip it if you can’t)(i mean skip the money, don’t skip the show!)
