PHILADELPHIA MEETS BALTIMORE: Conceptions and Perceptions
@ Towson University

This exhibition concentrates on the “new” abstraction taking place in Philadelphia and Baltimore seen in paintings, fibers, and sculpture. It will be on display from July 10—August 2, 3008. Reception: Saturday, July 12th, 1-3 Pm. Curator: J. Susan Isaacs
Philadelphia artists: Neil Anderson, Charles Burwell, Alice Oh, Tim McFarlane and Thomas Vance. Baltimore artists: Seth Adelsberger, Karin Birch, Ellen Burchenal, Lawrence Cromwell, Kay Hwang, Michelle Kong, and Michael Weiss.

SONDHEIM PRIZE @ the BMA
Opening on Saturday, July 12 — galleries open at 6 pm, announcement at 7 pm, reception from 7:30-9 pm Exhibition of work by the six finalists for the $25,000 Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize. Curated by Darsie Alexander Balitmore Museum of Art (BMA) Senior Curator of Contemporary Art. Finalists selected by Laura Hoptman, Senior Curator at the New Museum, artist Mickalene Thomas, and art historian Darby English.

Finalists are Becky Alprin, Melissa Dickenson, Dawn Gavin, Geoff Grace, Maren Hassinger, and Molly Springfield. In conjunction with Artscape, Baltimore’s premier arts festival, the BMA presents a special exhibition of the finalists for The Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize, which is organized by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.
