VisArts presents the 13th Annual Rockville Arts Festival on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in The Square (Maryland Avenue and East Middle Lane)—rain or shine. This highly anticipated event invites art lovers and the community to explore exceptional fine art and artisanal goods, experience live demos, join or watch the chalk art competition, and enjoy delicious local flavors.

Bringing together artists and artisans from across the country, the festival features returning award winners, fan favorites, standout local creators, and fresh faces. Attendees will find a diverse array of original artwork, including ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, glass, painting, photography, printmaking, wood, metal, mixed media, and fiber—each piece thoughtfully designed and expertly crafted. Live art demonstrations will provide an up-close look at artists in action, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their creative processes.

“The Rockville Arts Festival is a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and connection. It’s an opportunity to engage with talented artists, experience the magic of making, and take home one-of-a-kind pieces that inspire,” said Festival Director Robin Markowitz. “We’re thrilled to welcome both new and returning artists, and we can’t wait to see our community come together once again.”

Beyond the visual arts, festival-goers can savor a variety of crave-worthy food options, including Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, Maryland crab cakes, and a lineup of popular food trucks. The makers market offers an array of handcrafted finds, from artful apparel and stylish accessories (for both people and pets) to statement home decor, indulgent soaps and skincare, and gourmet delights like small-batch sauces, teas, artisanal cheeses, and handcrafted candies—including special treats for four-legged friends.

The festival’s third annual chalk art competition takes place on Saturday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., inviting artists of all ages to showcase their talent on the streets. Applications open April 11.

Attendees are also encouraged to explore VisArts’ contemporary exhibitions and installations, open 12 to 4 p.m., featuring thought-provoking works by Eliza Clifford, Aisha Nailah White, Isabella Whitfield, and VisArts’ faculty and students.

Additionally, the festival highlights the work of neurodiverse artists at the VisAbility Art Lab booth and offers a chance to engage with VisArts’ creative community at the faculty and student booth.

With so much to see, experience, and take home, VisArts’ Rockville Arts Festival is a must-visit event.
