Event Description:

In 2020 I was nearing the end of my PhD when the world froze in the wake of the pandemic. Witnessing the global tragedy over the past few years, combined with my own struggle of completing a doctoral program with an ever-changing finish line, sourced dark energy from within me. I sought out ways to constructively combat this trauma. During this period my exploration of painting began as I used it as a tool to cope with the maelstrom of emotions experienced watching the world fall apart. Through this medium, I was able to transform the chaos and disorder within me into things of beauty. I was able to heal through the catharsis of throwing paint and the joy of creating – leading me to explore my abstract expression on a larger and larger scale.

As we began to emerge from isolation, I found that making art was not just fulfilling as an individual but also catalyzed the formation of deeper connections within my friendships and community. By working together on art to create something greater than the sum of its parts, something impossible to make by any one person alone. Through the process of creating together, we can nourish the constructive energy that is needed to bring about meaningful change in our communities and society at large.

Over the last two weekends in June, I will be opening my home and studio to the public to display three themes in my expression. I will be showcasing larger personal pieces that were created at the beginning of the pandemic and throughout my PhD. Additionally, I will be displaying a selection of my large group projects focused on building community ties. And lastly, new individual and group works will be displayed as a progression of my process into the current time. I hope to see you there and share my journey with you.
