BEING AN ARTIST TODAY

a panel discussion about being an artist in a rapidly changing world

HEMPHILL Artworks

December 14, 2024

Please join us on Saturday, December 14, 2024, during the group exhibition, TWO X, for a panel discussion with artists Wayson R. Jones, Mark Kelner & Lisa Scheer.

There is no doubt we are living in a rapidly changing world. The future may present a wholly different environment where art is made and viewed. Most recently, we have experienced the creation of new tools for making and communicating about art along with a tumultuous election, ushering in potential societal changes.

The gallery is hosting a panel discussion to address four relevant questions we hope will begin to illuminate the path ahead: 1. Is the artist’s role changing? 2. How is the audience for visual arts changing? 3. How is art evolving in relation to the changing ways we learn about and experience art? 4. As an artist living in our nation’s capital, under a changing government, how will it affect your work?

Seating is limited, reservation required.

This talk coincides with the exhibition TWO X, on view at HEMPHILL through December 21, 2024. Since 1998, the ART TALKS series at Hemphill has included educational lectures on topics such as collecting for beginners, artist talks, and panel discussions on issues in contemporary art.
