Inspired by The Lessons of The Falling Leaves by Lucille Clifton, students will get the chance to explore the text, its meaning, and then take those creative ideas to make their own flat leaves out of clay! Students will learn how to roll out clay and cut it into different leaf shapes. After that, they will put all their leaves together on a backdrop and make sure everything sticks by using a special technique called “slip and score.” Once the leaves are ready, they will carve and paint them with cool colors before firing them in the kiln to finish.
