Taiwanese concert pianist Hui-Chuan Chen has performed at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall — and, for this special program, has commissioned noted composer Daniel Pesca to write a companion piece to Ludwig van Beethoven’s famous “Hammerklavier” Sonata in B-flat Major, Op. 106. Widely viewed as one of the most important piano sonatas ever composed, the Hammerklavier is also Beethoven’s most technically demanding work for keyboard — a real tour-de-force for the artist. Hear Dr. Chen perform this mammoth work alongside the world premiere of Dr. Pesca, professor of composition at the Eastman School of Music, who is “the perfect composer-virtuoso pianist (All about the arts).”
