The World Can’t Take It Away: BLIFTD ART STVDIOS Visiting Artists Collection No. 1

BLIFTD ART STVDIOS LAUNCHES VISITING ARTISTS COLLECTION NO. 1, AN INQUIRY INTO BLACK JOY AS A FRAMEWORK FOR RESISTANCE

BLIFTD ART STVDIOS is proud to present VISITING ARTISTS COLLECTION NO. 1: The World Can’t Take It Away. This premier collection is a compelling body of works by the following Maryland-based artists, curated to honor Black Joy as a framework for resistance:

Brandon J. Donahue-Shipp
Eric L. Briscoe

Sheila Crider

Waymond Harrison

John Henderson, Jr.

Jordan Lawson

Timoteo Murphy

Wendell Supreme Shannon

Ernest Shaw

Noreen Smith

Alexis Tyson

Chris Wilson

On the heels of the removal of the Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, D.C., and other recent threats to symbols of joyful resistance, The World Can’t Take It Away offers this timely assertion: Black Joy is more than brick-and-mortar symbols; it is an eternal, internal tool that transforms the impact of oppression and events. The vibrant works of these artists remind us that joy is a source of power that protects spirits, emotions, and the source of joy.

On April 3, 2025 (6-8:30 p.m.) BLIFTD will be open to the public for a special event celebrating the joyful richness and artistic diversity of these unique works and esteemed artists. Visitors can enjoy music, light refreshments, and an in-depth dialogue with the author of The Joy of the Disinherited and D.C.-based art collector Kevin Dedner, and Baltimore-based self-care ritual advisor Crystal Schackelford. The discussion will be an open inquiry into the power of Black Joy, its use as a framework for resistance, and how art and storytelling can channel the power of this joy.

Collection Runtime: April 3-May 2, 2025
Opening: April 3, 2025 | 6:00-8:30 p.m. | RSVP
