This session addresses Price’s Piano Quintet in A minor. This piece is virtually unknown and therefore requires attention to round out scholarship on Price’s total compositional output. Because there is very little information pertaining to this piece, I examine the form of the quintet and the structures of the movements themselves. This will include a specific look at the third movement Juba dance structure used by Price in her symphonies and this chamber work. This project also serves to connect this quintet to compositional schools and styles within early 20th century American music as it was developing.
