The Candlelight Concert Society is thrilled to partner with The Peale for a new concert series, Candlelight at the Peale. Starting in December, three concerts will feature world-class, intimate chamber music and chats with artists.

Hailed as “virtuosos of classical and contemporary chamber music,” the Poulenc Trio is America’s best known piano wind ensemble. This internationally acclaimed trio graces Candlelight’s stage during their 20th anniversary season, with a program called “Celebration: Rossini, Poulenc, the Duke, and Beyond.” Join us as the Poulenc Trio explores how diverse composers find and uplift the human spirit through music, and enjoy an illuminating Meet-the-Artists event after the performance.

The Poulenc Trio, comprised of Irina Kaplan Lande on piano, Alexander Vvedenskiy on oboe, and Bryan Young on bassoon, is celebrating its 20th year of captivating performances and inspiring the next generation of musicians. With over 25 commissioned pieces written or arranged for the ensemble, they have significantly expanded the repertoire for oboe, bassoon, and piano. The group’s most recent commissions include Explain Yourself by favorite composer Viet Cuong, and two works by Juri Seo: Melodie de Poulenc and Breathing Light, a collaboration with the phenomenal accordionist Hanzhi Wang. Also new for the group are stunningly beautiful arrangements of Poulenc’s songs, performed as trios or with an optional guest singer.

In a recent review, the New York Times praised the Trio for its “elegant rendition” of Piazzolla’s Tangos. The Washington Post said the trio “does its namesake proud” in “an intriguing and beautifully played program” with “convincing elegance, near effortless lightness and grace.” The group has been called “virtuosos of classical and contemporary chamber music” in one profile for Russian television.
