DESCRIPTION:
A figure from far into the future of gnarled wood and bark hovers over an ominous and seemingly impenetrable steel ball. Projected around the figure: ghostly fragments of the chilling and historic “Sandia Message,” intended to ward off future humans from a nuclear waste storage site.

“This is not a place of honor…
No highly esteemed deed is commemorated here…
What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us…”
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Chris Combs is an artist based in Washington, D.C. and Mount Rainier, Maryland, whose sculptural artworks both incorporate and question technologies.

Before becoming an artist, he was a photojournalist, a photo editor for National Geographic, a product manager, and ran a media website.

As a kid, he wanted to make robots; many years later, he looped back to this. His artwork often incorporates his own videos of natural places.
