WHAT: An eclectic group of artists from a cross-section of backgrounds with distinctive life stories are presenting their work in celebration of Baltimore’s phenomenal Creative Class of Artists.
WHO: Presenting Artists: DaVinci | Davon Carey | Tyra Powers | Bryan “Black Genius Art Show” Robinson | Ignacio Herrera | Francisco Loza | R Pollard | Ian Harpool | Caprece Jackson-Garrett | Robert Alex | DK | Stephen Wise.
WHY: To provide a platform for Artists to connect with the community, present and sell their art.
The CONSCIOUSNESS ON CANVAS Art Series established in October, 2015 by Stephen Wise, menswear designer, fine art curator, visionary entrepreneur, producer and artist has spotlighted over 70 Artists and Art Collectors from the Baltimore Area, greater Maryland, and Virginia, since the series began in 2016.
Participating Artists range in age from early 20’s to late-60’s, and each of them have a unique story that inspires them to create and express their point-of-view through their art.
Under Stephen’s keen curatorial eye, two of the artists mentioned above have had three month artist residency stints in the cafe of the Lord Baltimore Hotel. One of the two artists’ work is currently on display now.
What’s different about the upcoming edition, compared to all the other Consciousness On Canvas art shows, is that this one will feature Stephen’s work, the first since the COC 2015 debut in his hometown Baltimore. His last showing was in Brooklyn, New York in 2002 with famed artist and art curator Danny Simmons, older brother of hip hop legend and business mogul Russell Simmons, for which Stephen did a piece for. Stephen’s art can best be described as conceptual abstract art, almost puzzle-like until he reveals his perspective to you. Brace yourself for the unfamiliar with him & all his other fellow guests artists.
Mr. Wise, a member of The Baltimore Business Journals’ 2015-16 “40 Under 40” and resident curator of the series notes, “Consciousness On Canvas” is a portal for artists from all ways of life to exhibit the creativity and depths of their minds on canvas. For many it’s the first time displaying at an art show, many traveling from as far as Virginia to participate. All kinds of people, from all walks of life are discovering places they’ve never gone to in Baltimore and meeting people they’ve never met, all in the name and with the intent of embracing the aesthetics of fine art mediums, supporting artists, and buying art!
