David Page is known primarily as a sculptor and a performance artist, but this is an exhibition of his mark-making. These are David’s drawings in graphite, ink and intaglio etching. Some capture the accuracy of fine detail, while others freely express movement and energy. Many seemingly rapid sketches demonstrate the underlying concepts for his sculptures. Others are simply mark-making, using the most basic materials, in search of its potential for depth and form. There is spontaneity and prolonged observation in David’s skillful performances of these mark-making accomplishments.
David Page teaches at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at George Washington University, and the American University where he is Sculptor in Residence.
