This two hour workshop will review a brief history and overview of the processes! Batik is an art form and textile design technique that involves applying wax to fabric to create patterns and resist dye. Participants will be encouraged to experiment with hot wax, creating designs, motifs, or draw. Swatches of fabric, dye, wax, and wax utensils will be provided to participants.
Limited tickets available!
This workshop can be valuable to artists who are interested in drawing, painting, fibers, and is a relatively cost effective way to experiment with surface design. It is a way to make and create unique, tapestry-like patterns and imagery, while allowing the artist’s hand to shine through!
Wax and immersion dyeing can also be considered slightly less taxing on water systems, depending on the dye used. People can use this in their own practice or feel free to teach it to someone else. I also find it extremely valuable to give artists the time and materials to experiment with something different and new outside of their usual making methods.
