J Gavin Heck
Gavin is overjoyed to present with Zo Gallery “Wakey, Wakey” a collection of recent works that arose initially from a bout of severe insomnia in early 2023 and a more recent return to traditional composition. Gavin is an untrained artist who has worked with Spencer Tunick, Coney Island USA, Bopa and the American Visionary Arts Museum and has had prize winning large scale work in the Coney Island Mermaid Parade and Kinetic Sculpture race. Some of his older recent work leveraged ai for initial composition, spawning thousands of initial designs that inspired a few hundred hand sketches which inspired the final paintings.
A service-connected disabled veteran, Gavin’s recent work is a conscious effort to seek and create joy, leveraging a palate of brighter colors and fantastical animals. Though they’ve lived in Baltimore since moving from Brooklyn in 2004 NYC was where they built their experience and connection to the art world in work with the Madagascar Institute, Dark Passage and the NYC burningman community. Gavin looks forward to continuing to relish the “timeless, ageless, weightless” moments of creation.
