XoXo Gallery is excited to announce GRIT, an upcoming exhibition at XoXo Gallery that celebrates contradiction, incongruities and visual tension in relation to material, texture, and scale. Grit is on view beginning Thursday, December 19 – January 30, 2025.

Exhibiting Artists: Mandy Chesney, Stephanie Cobb, Rob Cook, Kristin Fuller, Andrew Hladky, Kelly Hall, Jay Howley, Sanzi Kermes, Lindsay Mueller, Linh Pham, Cait Phebus, Pamela Pinto, Mimi Remington, David Schlesinger, Michelle Spiziri, Bridget Z. Sullivan, Annette Wilson Jones

Exhibition Statement: GRIT explores the misrepresentation and perception of materiality in art.

This exhibition emphasizes artwork as an object and the importance of seeing and experiencing art in person. Not everything can be conveyed through a computer or phone screen. Each piece in the show pushes the boundaries of what we traditionally expect from mediums like painting, sculpture, photography, and beyond. Can an oil painting have a rough, tactile surface? Can a large-scale work feel intimate? Can a photograph take on the qualities of a painting? And how much presence can each piece command in space? This exhibition invites viewers to reconsider their initial judgment about materiality, its limitations and application.

Please join us on Saturday, December 21 from 4 PM to 6 PM for the opening reception of GRIT. XoXo Gallery is located at 218 West Saratoga St. Baltimore, MD 21201 on the 3rd Floor.
