Kristen Anchor, lecturer, media and communication studies, UMBC

In part two of this lecture series, we consider the technological leaps and bounds in video (projectors, inexpensive cameras, and the internet as a distribution mechanism for example) that enabled the expansion of video as an artist’s medium. Video works no longer require the TV-like monitor “box” and, using the new technologies available, artists expand the medium into installation, internet video, and even public art. We will look at examples of this artistic evolution through the work of artists like Issac Julien, Miranda July, Kristin Lucas, Paul Chan, Pipilotti Rist, and Jamika Ajalon.
