JOIN US ON THURS., APRIL 8th 2025 6-9PM in welcoming back LOCAL fave artist JEROME CHESTER aka GROOVYVANDAL
Jerome Chester, known as “TheGroovyVandal,” is a multifaceted artist from West Baltimore, Maryland, whose work reflects the character and culture of his hometown. Growing up in Baltimore’s underfunded public school system, Jerome’s potential was recognized by two supportive teachers who encouraged his talent. While their guidance was pivotal during their time in his life, Jerome is largely autodidactic embracing a journey of trial, error, and growth to become the artist he is today.
Jerome’s versatility shines through his exploration of various mediums, including quilting textiles, graphic design, handmade clothing, and fine art. His fearless creativity and commitment to his craft have established him as a prominent figure in Baltimore’s art scene. He has contributed through solo and group exhibitions, mentoring young artists, and creating vibrant murals that enhance the city’s neighborhoods.
Through his visionary art, Jerome continues to inspire and leave a lasting impact, connecting with both his local community and audiences beyond.
My work is a testament to the resilience, vibrancy, and boundless creativity that thrives in West Baltimore. As an artist who moves fluidly across mediums—quilting textiles, graphic design, handmade t-shirts, and street art—I create with a vision of bridging the personal and the collective. Each piece I craft tells a story, rooted in my own journey and the broader narratives of community, identity, and self-expression.
Influenced by the support of two transformative educators who recognized my potential in Baltimore’s underfunded schools, I approach art as both a platform for individual empowerment and a tool for connection. Whether through murals that reflect the heartbeat of our streets or through mentoring young creatives, I seek to inspire others to see the beauty and potential in themselves and their surroundings.
My process is intentionally diverse and collaborative. From meticulously stitching textiles to spraying bold strokes of color on public walls, my goal is to spark conversations, challenge perspectives, and celebrate the stories that make us who we are. In a world that often overlooks the beauty in everyday life, my art invites viewers to pause, reflect, and see their environment—and themselves—in a new light.
As “TheGroovyVandal,” I aim to leave an imprint of joy, resilience, and creativity wherever I go, blending tradition and innovation to honor the past while reimagining the future.
