Jim Doran: Found and Chosen
While grappling with the free-floating anxiety that all of us collectively struggled with during the Pandemic, Jim Doran began walking through his neighborhood of Hamilton in Northeast Baltimore City. This proved to be a helpful coping mechanism, and quickly became part of his artistic practice. These walks helped him quiet his thoughts, become present, and observe the world around him. In his new show Found and Chosen, Jim explores his relationship to found materials and sounds accumulated during this time. Jim will release a free cassette and CD, made possible with a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, which will feature sounds and compositions to accompany the exhibit. The recordings are free to visitors of the gallery, while supplies last.
Jim Doran is an artist, composer, animator and experimental musician living in Baltimore City, Maryland. He earned a B.A. in music composition from Washington College, and an M.F.A. in studio art from Towson University.
