Please join us at the Takoma Park Community Center to see five new Little Free Library boxes featuring portraits of groundbreaking female authors and activists that were painted by local artists Samantha Contrino and Katie Macyshyn. The boxes will be installed across Takoma Park in this public art and literature project sponsored by the City of Takoma Park.

The little libraries feature portraits and inspiring quotes from a diverse group of powerful women who shook the status quo and advanced the overlapping worlds of literature and women’s rights. These role models include African-American author and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, Ethiopian educator and politician Senedu Gebru, Peruvian-American children’s book author Juana Martinez-Neal, Guatemalan human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchú, and English lesbian author Virginia Woolf. Please join us at this special event to get a jump start on National Women’s History Month!
