When one looks at a painting, you might be impressed with the technique that it showcases, how it reflects reality, or the emotion that it inspires. In order to influence how a viewer experiences a painting, an artist may have used the principles of composition. Caroline Cochran, a docent at the Walters Art Museum, discusses the principles of composition using artworks from the Walters collection.

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and the Walters wants to acknowledge and uplift our dedicated docents and volunteers. From welcoming visitors into the museum, conducting illuminating tours, and assisting with research projects, our docents and volunteers are an invaluable part of the Walters, and we appreciate all the work they do.

Thursday Nights are supported by BGE.
