The artist’s first solo gallery exhibition explores color, texture, and light to celebrate the joy in life’s everyday moments.
glimmer [ glim-er ] noun a faint or unsteady light; gleam
Lucia Mangione Giulio is interested in the celebration of the ordinary, the appreciation of the day-to-day, and the practice of “grateful living.” There is great power in understanding that one’s perception of their life shapes their reality, and that tremendous joy can be experienced in the simplest of moments.
This theory is visualized through her collection of acrylic paintings, “Everyday Glimmers.” Light reflects off of the pearlescent paints and embellishments of gold leaf, as textured layers of vibrant acrylic paint lie beneath. Her process in applying paint through hand-carved stamps is her way of portraying this view on day-to-day life. The stamps are balanced but imperfect, each mark is repetitive yet unique and beautiful. The work symbolizes the beauty of the everyday that could otherwise be seen as mundane. She has drawn inspiration for each piece from truly simple moments of joy: the expected yet stunning beauty in the annual changing colors of leaves, the vibrancy of an $8 bunch of flowers tossed into the cart at the grocery store, the uninhibited giggle from her toddler as she plays a game of peekaboo on the kitchen floor.
Life can be as beautiful as one chooses to believe it is. When one emphasizes the joy in these moments, they can appreciate the true beauty this life has to offer.
