Maryland Opera’s Season of Celebration continues with “Sounds of the Season” featuring operatic and seasonal favorites and excerpts from Hansel & Gretel performed by graduates of the Maryland Opera Summer Camp.  The performances are Friday, December 16, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the barn at Boordy Vineyards and Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on St. Paul Street.  Tickets are $20.

Returning to Maryland Opera are Christine Lyons, soprano, and Dane Suarez, tenor, who will sing opera, operetta and seasonal favorites sure to put you in the holiday mood.  And to further add to your celebration, our Opera Campers, featuring Isabel Marcus (Gretel), Kylie Carter (Hansel), Grace Hebeisen (The Mother), Micah Taylor (The Father), and Alex Blenman (The Witch), will offer staged selections fromHansel and Gretel (in English).  Children are welcome both at Boordy Vineyards and St. Mark’s Church and we do hope to see many young audience members enjoying Humperdinck’s masterpiece!

Stage and musical direction and piano accompaniment for all selections is by Maryland Opera’s Artistic Director, James Harp, long known for excellence in operatic performances and musical outreach in the Mid-Atlantic area.

“The holidays are a time of family and celebration!” said Harp.  “Our ‘Sounds of the Season’ concerts will offer both while reveling in the glorious sounds of great music.  Our internationally renowned soloists will be joined by the soon-to-be-renowned emerging talent of our Opera Camp alumni as they present delightful and heartwarming selections from Hansel and Gretel.  All ages will join to celebrate this time of togetherness and joy.  To paraphrase the famous song ‘And so I’m offering this simple phrase to kids from one to ninety-two, although it’s been said many times, many ways, Happy Holidays to you!’”

Tickets are $20 and are available on Maryland Opera’s website, marylandopera.org, or by calling 484-678-6041, and at the door on the day of the performance.  Seating is limited, though, so advance orders are recommended.  Free parking is available at the Boordy Vineyards property on December 16 and in the St. Mark’s Church parking lot across 20th Street from the church.
