Morton Fine Art presents Meditation on Blue, on view from November 12th, 2024 to January 16th, 2025 at Morton Fine Art (52 O St NW #302, Washington, DC), Meditation on Blue brings together a diverse group of artists whose works transcend geographical boundaries to explore the depth and versatility of blue in abstract art. While broadly diverse in technical processes and conceptual concerns, artists Michael Andrew Booker, Kesha Bruce, Natalie Cheung, Jaz Graf, Hiromitsu Kuroo, Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann, Andrei Petrov, Amber Robles-Gordon, Prina Shah and Liz Tran are united through their use of the color blue. Shades with fascinating historical and chemical origins – cobalt, indigo, ultramarine, cyan, Prussian Blue, Egyptian Blue – in the hands of an artist are transformed into abstracted seas or skies, morose moods or mysteriously enchanting abysses. At once peaceful and melancholic, blue speaks to the primordial essence of things, receding to the depths of the artwork and providing a quiet space for contemplation and renewal.
