Join GBCA as we welcome the new Executive Director of the Creative Alliance, Gregory S. Smith, to Baltimore! The evening will feature lite fare, connections, and sounds from Black new music trio UPENDO. Dive deep with Gregory as he sits down for a lively discussion with Jeannie L. Howe, Executive Director of GBCA, followed by a Q&A.

Tickets for the general public are $10. This event is free for GBCA Members*. There will also be a cash bar provided by the Motor House Showroom.

About Gregory S. Smith: Gregory is a dynamic collaborator experienced in utilizing the arts and culture as a catalyst to spark civic engagement, community building, and cultural enrichment, with a unique passion for creating work that invites, engages, and excites members of diverse communities. He firmly believes in arts for art’s sake, and that the arts have a continued responsibility to be a responsive reflector of society, challenging people to move beyond the status quo.

Prior to arriving in Baltimore, Gregory served as the business operations manager and a producer for the Live Events team with Minnesota Public Radio. He formerly served in the same capacity for the historic Fitzgerald Theater, the previous home of the Prairie Home Companion/Live from Here at MPR. He is an actor, director, teaching artist, and facilitator, having worked at theatres across the country.

About UPENDO: UPENDO, which means love in the Swahili language, is a Black new music trio led by Brandon Woody. Brandon started playing the trumpet 11 years ago. He received a full scholarship to the Brubeck Institute before attending the Manhattan School of Music. He is an endorsed artist with B.A.C Musical Instruments and is a new member of Hollywood Anderson’s band.
