Acclaimed artists Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (Salish/Cree/Shoshone) and Kay WalkingStick (Cherokee) discuss their work, their distinguished careers, and their thoughts on the current state of Native American contemporary art in this online program.
Both artists are featured in the National Museum of the American Indian’s exhibition Stretching the Canvas: Eight Decades of Native Painting, which draws from the museum’s rich permanent collection to present nearly forty paintings that transcend, represent, or subvert conventional ideas of authenticity. This event will be moderated by Rebecca Head Trautmann, assistant curator of contemporary art and a co-curator of Stretching the Canvas.
