Artists David Ayala and Emily Wisniewski open dialogue about queer physical and sexual
expression. Emily paints childhood landscapes and naked female figures from various
perspectives. David draws attention to the act of perception by referencing the self, the other,
and The Wizard of Oz. David’s work functions as a meditation on depth through textured
surfaces. Navigating the spiritual and physical realities of queerness in contemporary life
through material exploration, both artists incorporate materials such as nail polish, glass,
gold leaf, and glitter into their oil paintings. The materials morph from physical objecthood
into the imagined space of the painting.
