A three show run of Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally’s searing opera opens March 13th. It’s based on Sister Helen Prejean’s book about the true story of a man sentenced to death in Louisiana, the nun who recognized his life’s value, and the meanings of justice and forgiveness. “Heggie’s interpretation of Dead Man Walking is an opportunity to feel. That’s especially important now, when many of us may want to check out from the overwhelm of life and politics. This show can help us break out of that. It facilitates true expression of feelings in the safety and community of theatre, taking you through the whole wheel of human emotions… not only sorrow and grief, but also joy, fear, vulnerability, confusion, disdain, anger, tenderness, comfort, love and even laughter” said mezzo-soprano Mairin Srygley. “This is a collaborative performance featuring AACC students, faculty, professional guest artists, and the All Children’s Chorus of Annapolis. Jake Heggie and Sister Helen Prejean took time to talk to and meet our students and company—absolutely amazing,” added stage director Douglas Brandt Byerly.
