Frustrated by the lack of federal action after the 2013 Sandy Hook school tragedy, and inspired by Yoko Ono’s statement that there had been 1 million gun victims in the US since John Lennon was shot in 1980, Kimberly Sheridan sought to memorialize the forgotten victims of gun violence by doing their portraits. The Million Gun Victims March (MGVM) was born.
What a shock when a major bridge spanning the Patapsco River for 50 years collapsed in seconds. Most heartbreaking are the lives lost of the six men working to keep the road safe for thousands of drivers crossing it every day. The 6 portraits of these men that this local self-taught artist made intend to help transform grief into a determination to enact change.
MGVM aims to deliver every portrait into the arms of loved ones as a tool to transform suffering. “Although I am a stranger, your loved ones matter to all of us. These gifts are meant to ensure that you are not alone.” – Kimberly Sheridan
