Funktopia TM is a multidisciplinary arts initiative that centers BIPOC stories created through solidarity and collaboration with artists from our communities and our allies. Telling these stories is a labor of love.It takes a little blood, a lot of sweat, and even a few tears to bring them to life. The philosophy of Funktopia Nation is embodied in the ideals of Sankofa  – a word in the Twi language of Ghana which means “looking back to move forward.” We tell inspiring stories that do not focus on systemic trauma. This trauma has rooted itself in how our stories are told, but it is not our only story. We seek to honor the legacies of those who came before and to be true to our own lived experiences, but always to strive for a future free from the bondages of systemic oppression.
