OPENING RECEPTION:  HOFFBERGER GALLERY at BALTIMORE HEBREW CONGREGATION NOVEMBER 19, 2024 6:30-8 PM  –
7401 Park Heights Ave, Baltimore, MD 21208
The public is welcome, and will be able to engage in conversation with the artist about these separate but intertwined bodies of work and experience the textures and details of these layered paintings.
The Show runs November 19, 2024  – January 2025

STATE OF BEING includes 32 works by Heather Kirtland, many of which have not been exhibited before. The show spans three painting series and will be displayed together for the first time. It includes her newest group of paintings from the series: BALLAST.

“I am excited to show paintings from these separate but intertwined series. When the works are hung together in one space they will create a dialogue between one another.” – Heather Kirtland

Heather uses a visual language to create a narrative through abstraction:
My work reflects our state of being and responds to our need to be seen. Through abstract compositions, I create visual representations of our universal human emotions. I use brushstrokes, drawn lines, layers of paint, and recognizable forms to represent us. I show how outside forces surround our inner selves and convey these emotions through paint.

Heather has a BFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She was a Maryland State Arts Council Grants recipient, a panelist for the DC Commission for the Arts, a West Elm local artist, and co-author of the book THE MOTHERHOOD OF ART (Schiffer Publishing).
