Full Circle Fine Art, an arts services studio and gallery space in Baltimore’s Old Goucher neighborhood, brings Stephen Mallon’s beautiful, extra-large photographs of post industrial materials to Baltimore’s oldest, continually-operating, photographic gallery.
Tracing the Path of Human Industrial Enterprise
Full Circle welcomes photographer Stephen Mallon to the gallery in November. His show, “The Material Afterlife”, will open Saturday November 9, 2024. Stephen, a Rochester Institute of Technology graduate (’96), is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker whose projects are in numerous private and public collections. He has been published in such places as Fast Company, Time Out London, Popular Science and National Geographic. His work brings into focus the industrial-scale creations of mankind, the various moments in their lifecycle, and their ecological footprints. The images at Full Circle will highlight, through close-ups and abstractions of physical forms, the post- consumer and post-industrial landscape of objects as they move on from useful object to trash to potential as a recycled material. From saran wrap, the drink cans, metal trimmings to aluminum siding, Mallon’s lens depicts wonderful abstractions of color and texture while bringing attention to the shear volume of scale remnants of our consumer lives. Mallon states, “We generate about 250 million tons of garbage a year, but at both the individual and industrial level, recycling removes waste from the landfill, breathing new life into it. This is not an exposé of the world of waste, but an optimistic celebration of the innovation out there, the secret worlds of salvage.”
OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday November 9, 2024 from 5-8pm EST.
