Join us for a conversation with LJ Roberts, the artist behind “Stormé at Stonewall,” and Charlotte Ickes, the National Portrait Gallery’s curator of time-based media art. “Stormé at Stonewall” is a light-box portrait of activist Stormé DeLarverie, who is said to have thrown the first brick at Stonewall—the uprising credited with launching the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement in 1969. Roberts created this unconventional portrait in response to DeLarverie’s absence in mainstream narratives about the history of the Stonewall rebellion.
