Suzan Rouse pushes her boundaries even further with “Noir”, her latest body of work. This series was executed very directly, with no planning or preliminary drawing. The works are conceived intuitively. Rouse draws with a spontaneity and directness that are deceptively childlike and which give her prints great charm. The whimsical quality of her style undercuts the message, unsettling at times. All prints in this series are monotypes, which produces only one print per image – there is no edition, instead, each print is unique.

Rouse holds a degree in art education from MICA, where she studied etching with John Sparks, serving as his printing assistant for many years. She is a longtime member of The Washington Printmakers and Maryland Printmakers associations. She is a resident of the Artists’ Housing of Baltimore.
