Come meet the featured artists of The Art of Drag at the show closing on Sunday, November 12th!
The reception is a public event, and will include a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres. Please register in advance for headcount purposes.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The Art of Drag seeks to explore the evolution, history and social impact of modern drag as both a visual and performance art. The exhibit will also highlight the stories behind the performers themselves, exploring themes such as survivorship, trauma-healing, and weight and body image, as well as socially imposed double standards regarding clothing and self-expression across genders.
A key aspect of Gallery 220’s mission as a fine art gallery is to “[promote] intellectually provocative artistic discourse.”
For this show specifically, we aim to debunk common misconceptions about this art form and educate the Public by featuring historical references of famous drag icons (for example, Baltimore’s own Divine) alongside physical costumes, photography, paintings, and video essays that explore the “behind the scenes” aspects of drag and the personalities behind the performance.
