Caryn Martin & Stephanie Wolff both make art inspired by the weather. This exhibition places their work in conversation. Martin uses the ever-changing atmospheric conditions of landscape as a metaphor for the shifting nature of human emotion while also reflecting on the state of the environment. Stephanie Wolff’s ongoing body of work explores both her own relationship to weather and her “Along the Banks of My River” project interprets the diaries and almanacs of an early 19th century woman from the Delaware River watershed, Anna Blackwood Howell. In Howell’s ongoing accounts weather is a constant refrain as a primary influence on daily life and the shifting emotional states related to both the beauty and tragedy she experienced over the course of her life.
