The Exhibition Department at Stevenson University is pleased to announce the 2024 fall Transformations / Transformaciones exhibition in its Manning Academic Center 2nd Floor gallery. Sheila Crider and Francisco Loza are the featured artists.
Ms. Crider describes her work as “Intersectional Painting” that combines painting, drawing, braiding, stitching and weaving to create three-dimensional forms. The visual stories these works express defy resolution by any one formal element of the composition. Instead, the lushness of these works engages the senses inward, allowing respite from the complications of expectations. These works also explore her recent migration from her foundational home of Washington, DC to Baltimore, MD. Crider is represented by New Door Creative. https://www.newdoorcreative.com
Mr. Loza, originally from Mexico, creates Arte en Estambre (Pressed Yarn) by working on wood surfaces covered in wax used as an adhesive base onto which he cuts, presses and shapes his artwork. His pieces reflect his interpretations of Mexican/Latino cultural traditions, nature, immigration, the abstract, and unique 3-Dimensional shape-shifting imagery. His creative process involves using yarn, and in some pieces, combined with chaquira (beaded pieces). LOZA has two decades of collaboration with Huichol Shaman artisans including joint exhibits at The AVAM Museum, the Walter’s Art Gallery, Creative Alliance, and the Mexican Embassy in Washington, DC. He resides in Baltimore, MD. http://www.lozaarte.com/
Crider and Loza were invited to showcase their work specifically for Fashion Design majors who are learning how fashion design concepts are researched and created. Both artists will lead interactive workshops that feature materials they use in their artwork production.
The 2nd Floor Art Gallery is located on the NORTH campus in the Kevin Manning Academic Center, 11200 Ted Herget Lane, Owings Mills, MD 21117. The gallery is open 9–7pm M-F, 11am–4pm Saturday, or by appointment.
