Recorded in the studio of Zemer Peled this past May as a commission and available to the general public for the first time, this captivating recording features world-renowned cellist Amit Peled and his protégé, the Cuban-born Ismael Guerrero, performing amidst and to the blooming, angular, and arresting sculptures of Amit’s sister Zemer.

About Amit Peled:
Israeli-American cellist, conductor, and pedagogue Amit Peled, a musician of profound artistry and charismatic stage presence, is acclaimed worldwide as one of the most exciting and virtuosic instrumentalists on the concert stage today. At 6’5″ tall, Peled started life as a basketball player and was called “larger than life” and “Jacqueline du Pré in a farmer’s body” when he enveloped his cello. Peled strives to break down the barriers of the concert hall, about which The Baltimore Sun wrote, “His amiable and inviting personality is exactly the type everyone says we’ll need more of if classical music is to survive.” From 2012 through 2018, Peled performed on the Pablo Casals 1733 Goffriller cello, which was loaned to him personally by Casals’ widow, Marta Casals Istomin. He also has been named Music Director for CityMusic Cleveland for the 2019-2020 season.
About Ismael Guerrero:
Ismael Ariel Guerrero Bombut is a cellist from Havana, Cuba. He began his cello studies at the age of 8. While in Cuba he won several competitions and participated in masterclasses from renowned cellists such as Carlos Prieto, Clemen Hagens and Leidi Litschauer, among others. He is now in his fourth year of his undergraduate studies at Peabody Conservatory, which he attends on full scholarship, studying with Amit Peled. He has performed with Heifetz On Tour in Exton, Pennsylvania and Staunton, Virginia after attending the Heifetz International Music Institute 2017 on full scholarship. Ismael was one of the eight semifinalists in the Artist Series National String Competition in 2018, which was held in Sarasota, Florida. He has also attended Keshet Eilon in Israel, where he won the concerto competition which allowed him to perform as a soloist with the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble in The Opera House of the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center. He has also performed in Mexico, Cape Cod, North Carolina, Florida, Baltimore and Washington DC, sharing the stage with renowned musicians such as Vadim Gluzman, Michael Kannen, Alon Goldstein and Amit Peled. He has been invited on several occasions to join the Mount Vernon Virtuosi and the Peabody Cello Gang, which with he recorded a CD.
About Zemer Peled:
Baltimore-based Zemer Peled’s work examines the beauty and brutality of the natural world. Her sculptural language is formed by her surrounding landscapes and nature, engaging with themes of memory, identity and place. Her works are formed from thousands of porcelain shards constructed into large-scale/small-scale sculptures and installations.
Peled was born and raised in Israel. She earned her MA at the Royal College of Art (UK). In recent years, her work has been exhibited internationally at venues including Sotheby’s, Saatchi Gallery (London), and the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City). She has been featured in Vogue, O Magazine, Elle and other international publications.
Her work is found in many private collections around the world and museum collections, such as the Fuller Craft Museum, the Crocker Art Museum, and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation.
