Throughout history, it was considered unlucky for women to be onboard ships, much less captaining them. In this virtual panel discussion, moderated by Kate Livie, Chesapeake writer and historian, hear the experiences of local women captains in a traditionally male-dominated field, as well as narratives around history and women’s work on historical vessels. Joining the panel is Kristin Rutkowski, Her Helm founder and photographer; Kate Dumhart, co-captain of the Sultana; Captain Laura “LP” Page, Living Classrooms captain and maritime educator; and Maura Hackett, USCG Licensed Captain.
