The National Aquarium is excited to announce Voyages, an original immersive event series for adults that inspires connection to nature and celebrates Baltimore. Each event of the series will feature a deconstructed science lecture rebuilt into an immersive experience by Baltimore artists, culminating in a community celebration with local food and beverage brands.

At Voyages: Chapter 1, voyagers will embark on an audiovisual journey created by breath artist Dominic ‘Shodekeh’ Talifero. This audio is inspired by Shodekeh’s extensive research from the months he spent in the Aquarium exploring the topics of biodiversity and animal communication as well as his conversations with experts within our walls and in the field, including our featured scientist for the event, Ashakur Rahaman of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The audio waves of the soundscape will be translated into visual displays projected throughout the building, allowing voyagers to engage in a multisensory journey.

“This is a unique opportunity for curious minds to experience the wonder of the National Aquarium in an after-hours setting while supporting local art and business” said Shodekeh. “Voyages is where art and science meet, as Baltimore artists help voyagers understand the science in our everyday lives.”

Following the immersive audio tour in the Aquarium’s Pier 3 building, voyagers will make their way to Pier 4 for an after party featuring a live DJ set from Baltimore-based musician and producer Wendel Patrick, as well as local vendors serving up some of the best of the Baltimore food scene. Voyagers can enjoy menu options from Cajou Creamery, Pure Chocolate by Jinji, Sporty Dog Creations and more. Alcoholic and zero-proof beverages will also be available throughout the experience.

The National Aquarium has partnered with a group of community and scientific advisors to provide guidance and insight into each event based on their areas of expertise. Community advisors for Voyages: Chapter 1 include culinary activist Chyno ‘The Blue Bearded Foodie,’ Hotel Revival director Jason Bass, Light City festival organizer and Smithsonian curator Ashley Molese, and more.
