Johns Hopkins University professor Lawrence P. Jackson will take a critical look at Clint Eastwood’s impact on the western film.  The author argues that Eastwood, a seminal figure in 1960s “spaghetti” westerns that were linked to the avant-garde and anti-colonialism, regressed the genre in the late 1970s with films such as The Outlaw Josey Wales.  Mr. Jackson will also examine how the western continues to be a conduit for thoughts on race and imperialism today.

Lawrence P. Jackson is an English and history professor at Johns Hopkins University.   He is the author of several books, including Shelter: A Black Tale of Homeland, Baltimore and Chester B. Himes: A Biography.
