Please join us on Saturday, April 27, 2024, the final day of STEVEN CUSHNER, for a gallery talk with the artist and painting conservator, Jay Krueger.

Jay Krueger was appointed senior conservator of modern paintings at the National Gallery of Art in 1992, and became the head of paintings conservation in 2013. He is a Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC). Jay Krueger received a BFA in Printmaking and BA in Art History from Washington University in St Louis, followed by his Master’s with a certificate of advanced study in painting conservation from the State University of New York, Cooperstown Graduate Program.

Steven Cushner was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1954. He received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 1976 and a MFA in painting from the University of Maryland in 1980. He is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities. His work has been exhibited at many galleries nationally and is included in numerous private and public collections, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC, the American University Museum, Washington, DC, The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC, the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT and the United States Embassy in Ankara, Turkey.

This talk coincides with the exhibition, STEVEN CUSHNER, on view at HEMPHILL through April 27, 2024. Since 1998, the ART TALKS series at Hemphill has included educational lectures on topics such as collecting for beginners, artist talks, and panel discussions on issues in contemporary art.
