Join us for the Building Trust & Engaging with Descendant Communities workshop on April 27th, hosted by Co-Chairs Commissioner Elinor Thompson and Commissioner Janice Curtis Greene, along with the Ancestral Remains Descendant Working Group Committee.

We’re calling for workshop leaders, potential descendants, and enthusiastic volunteers – especially youth!

At our inaugural meeting, you can discover the exciting plans of the Ancestral Remains Cemetery Research & Preservation Committee. A collaboration between Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture, Maryland Historical Trust, and Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab, we’re crafting a groundbreaking approach within state regulations to honor the remains of African descent at Bennett’s Point, Queen Anne’s County.

This innovative project is set to become a national model for transferring human remains, a vital step in preserving our shared heritage.
