Join us for an important film screening for international sports enthusiasts and soccer fans! As  Germany gears up to host the UEFA Euro Cup 2024 (men), you are cordially invited to an exclusive screening of Black Eagles (2021), the award-winning documentary about Black soccer players and racism in Germany.

First broadcast during the Euro Cup in 2021, Black Eagles puts Germany’s Black soccer players, men and women, center stage. They share their experiences playing in and for a predominantly white country, the racist abuse they have endured, and the stories of friendship and resilience that have sustained them.

Black Eagles elevated previously marginalized voices of Black soccer players and encouraged a public debate about anti-Black racism in sports in Germany. For its originality and contribution, the film won the prestigious German Television Prize for Best Documentary in 2021. It has lost none of its relevance, and in the run-up to the Euro Cup 2024 is screened across Germany this spring. This screening represents a unique opportunity to watch and learn from this film. Black Eagles is otherwise not available in the United States. All are welcome to join the conversation about the film, soccer, and racism in Germany.

Dr. Victoria Harms, Johns Hopkins University, will facilitate the discussion.

The film has been made available with funding from the German American Cultural Center Maryland.
