The Mobtown Ballroom & Cafe, formerly recognized as the Mobtown Ballroom, is thrilled to announce its grand opening party at its brand-new location (30 W. North Ave.) inside Station North’s North Avenue Market on Saturday, April 20.
Following the successful completion of its soft opening, Mobtown Ballroom & Cafe is set to unveil its delectable food and coffee menus at a formal inauguration of what promises to become a Baltimore institution. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the free festivities will feature live music from Baltimore jazz stalwart Christie Macdonald and The Mel B Trio. Additionally, guests will have the pleasure of indulging in sea treats, expertly shucked by the talented team from local woman-owned raw bar collective Galatea Oysters. Chef Jake Cornman’s brunch specials and full menu will also be available.
In its new Station North location, the Mobtown team has expanded not only by adding a cafe but also by significantly enhancing its offerings as a music venue. To keep the celebration alive into the evening, Mobtown will host JAMES BROWN VS TINA TURNER, two sets of live music paying homage to these legendary artists. The evening festivities will also showcase an array of bar snacks and expertly crafted drinks by bar manager Dave Cavalier. The ticketed event kicks off at 7 p.m., with live music from 8-11 p.m.
Cornman, previously of Dylan’s Oyster Cellar, describes the overall food program as “simple classics done right and from scratch.” He eagerly anticipates introducing his sandwiches, salads, and soups—accompanied by a full-service coffee bar—during the day, along with evening options such as Ribwiches, fried chicken sandwiches, Frito Pie, and fried pickles—complemented by Cavalier’s original and classic cocktails.
“The combination of a daytime coffee program and an evening events space is perfect for Station North, we think,” said Sarah Sullivan and Michael Seguin, co-founders of Mobtown Ballroom & Cafe. “It lends itself to the kind of community-based second-home feeling that we believe in and work to cultivate.”
