Starting with the end of slavery at Mount Clare, the evidence of enslaved people’s lives was buried or disappeared from the landscape. Historical documents and archaeological studies, however, demonstrate the impact of Black people on everyday life at the plantation. Featuring archaeologist Teresa Moyer, this talk will outline some of the stories about real people who lived, worked, and raised families at Mount Clare.
Teresa Moyer, PhD. is an archaeologist with the National Park Service. She is the author of Ancestors of Worthy Life: Slavery and Black Heritage at Mount Clare (University of Florida Press, 2015).
Presented by the Peale and Baltimore National Heritage Area.
