Because I am a fan of movies about sleazy painters … and Woody Allen … I am excited about his new film. It is called ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ and stars Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, and, of course, his current favorite, Scarlett Johansson. Plot synopsis: two girlfriends on a summer holiday in Spain become enamored with the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife, with whom he has a tempestuous relationship, is about to re-enter the picture. Yadda yadda, good fun, and probably some very bad faux painting scenes, which are always sort of fascinating.

We can add this one to the list that includes ‘Life Lessons’ where Nick Nolte played an Ab Ex Emotional Mess in New York Stories, Art School Confidential, Pollock, Basquiat, and An American in Paris where Gene Kelly is a struggling painter, discovered by a wealthy ‘amorous’ gallery owner.
