Baltimore News: J.M. Giordano at MAP, Wallace Lan [...]

On Friday, May 13, BmoreArt hosted an outdoor release event for our subscribers, as well as featured artists, contributors, and media partners in the Baltimore Museum of Art‘s Sculpture Garden. Hosted by the BMA and Gertrude’s Restaurant with sponsorships from the Baltimore Spirits Company and Guilford Hall Brewery, the night was beautiful and clear with a sudden downpour perfectly aligned with the closing of the bar.

We are thrilled to release our 13th print journal into the world and we hope you enjoy our efforts to present collecting as a meaningful creative act, a source of community pride, and a way for us to support one another in this city full of art and artists.

For those interested in attending our release parties in the future, the one way to guarantee two tickets is to SUBSCRIBE at an “Artist” level or higher! We could not produce this print journal without the support of a growing and diverse subscriber base and we look forward to engaging with subscribers at all levels with future events, programs, lectures, and editorially.

Creating a beautiful print journal is an incredibly complicated act and involves collaboration at every level of decision-making, from our editorial choices on the theme and balance of stories, to our writers and photographers, as well as to the artists we feature who trust that we will represent them in an authentic way. This could not happen without the input of our core team including our Managing Editor Rebekah Kirkman, and writers Suzy Kopf and Teri Henderson, who not only contributed inspired stories, but helped to formulate a cohesive editorial vision around the theme.

So many thanks go out to our sponsors, advertisers, and supporters: the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation, Baltimore Museum of Art, The Walters Art Museum, The Maryland Institute College of Art, University of MD Baltimore County, Towson University, Collegetown Network, Tamarian Carpets, the American Craft Council, Baker Artist Portfolios, Creative Alliance, The Peale Center, Tracey Clark Realtor, Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, Made in Baltimore, and Visit Baltimore. Thank you to the Baltimore Jewelry Center for working with us on the Artifactual Remakes shoot and, jewelry artists, thank you for loaning us your jewelry!

Issue 13 features the writing and photography of a number of brilliant individuals including Rafael Alvarez, Kelvin Bulluck, Angela N. Carroll, Schaun Champion, Vivian Doering, Jalen Eutsey, Siân Evans, Jill Fannon, Saskia Kahn, Will Kirk, AF Oehmke, E. Brady Robinson, Laurence Ross, Vlad Smolkin, Justin Tsucalas, and Elena Volkova. Subjects include Nakeya Brown, Jordan Tierney, Deyane Moses, Brandon Donahue, Linda Franklin, Mathom House (Benjamin Kelley and Morgan Kempthorn), Housewerks Salvage, collectors Keith Timmons, Nancy Dorman, and Stanley Mazaroff. Our cover features a cabinet at Housewerks, photographed close up by Saskia Kahn.

Special thanks to John Shields, John Gilligan, Mary-Margaret Stepanian, and Melanie Martin for making this event happen! Thank you to DJ Amy Reid for an inspiring array of tunes.

We look forward to many more celebrations of Baltimore contemporary art and culture in our most iconic settings. Subscribers, we could not do this without you!
