Quiet Storm is an exhibition rooted in restraint, where power reveals itself without spectacle. In this body of work, Baltimore-based artist Elijah Trice explores strength that does not announce itself, but endures. The paintings resist volume and excess, favoring subtlety, stillness, and emotional density over overt declaration.
Artist Statement :
Baltimore-based portrait artist Elijah Trice creates work that centers the depth, dignity, and complexity of the people who shape his world. Rooted in a deep respect for human presence, his portraits are less about likeness and more about revealing the emotional truth that lives beneath the surface. Through attentive observation and an intuitive approach to color, light, and gesture, Trice captures the quiet power of ordinary moments and the layered stories held within each face.
Drawing inspiration from the cultural vibrancy of Baltimore, Trice focuses on the individuals and communities that give the city its pulse. His work highlights everyday people; friends, neighbors, strangers whose identities are often overlooked or flattened in mainstream narratives. By portraying them with nuance, intimacy, and a sense of rootedness, he challenges viewers to reconsider who is worthy of being seen and remembered.
